Unfortunately Sander Kleinenberg will not be able to perform for his Avaland Residency in Los Angeles at Avalon Hollywood on Saturday September 13th.
Avalon says, "All of us in his Avaland family would like to extend to Sander and his family our deepest condolences with the passing of his mother. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Kleinenberg family. Although Sander sincerely apologizes for any inconvenience this has caused for everyone who had been looking forward to seeing him this Saturday, he is set to return to Los Angeles on New Year's Eve to complete the 2008 portion of his This Is Avaland Residency."
Our thoughts also go out to Sander and we wish him well. He's truely an amazing talented artist, producer, remixer and DJ.
This Saturday, filling in for Sander, Trent Cantrelle will be performing for another installment of his Sounds Like Avaland Residency.

The ever-popular Get Physical label has announced it is going digital last week with a new digital-only imprint aptly called Get Digital.
Get Physical, which has also recently updated it's website and kicked off the Kindisch label, will release mp3s on the new imprint from label mainstays. That said, it kicks off with some (relative) newbies to the GP world: Jamie Jones and Simon Baker. The duo, which recently performed on the same bill in Los Angeles for the Droog party, will be giving away the label's inaugural release for free. All you have to do is mosey over to their website, fill in some details and they'll send a link right over to you. Future releases from the label will include work from Thomas Neumann and a collaboration from GPM founders M.A.N.D.Y. and Booka Shade. Simon Baker & Jamie Jones have been long time DJ's in England's underground electronic music scene, who have within the last couple of years emerged as respected producers and have seen their works signed to labels such as Crosstown Rebels, 20/20 Vision, Freak 'N' Chic, Poker Flat, Cocoon, Get Physical and Connoisseur just to name a few.
All Get Digital releases will be available exclusively through the new Get Physical website. |

Christopher Lawrence Named America’s Best DJ
Trance DJ Christopher Lawrence was named the 2008 winner of the America’s Best DJ contest on Tuesday, September 2, during a ceremony at Rouge at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Lawrence was presented with a gold medal and a gold-plated Pioneer DJM-800 mixer – the only one in existence.
Turntablist legend DJ Qbert took the silver, and DJ/rock star DJ Skribble took the bronze.
After the presentation of the awards by dance recording artist Kristine W, the three medalists – and No. 5 finisher DJ Scotty Boy – played special sets for an enthusiastic Rouge crowd.
The ceremony was the culmination of a four-month contest and tour, presented by Pioneer Pro DJ and DJ Times magazine. Since June, the top 100 DJs in America – as selected by the editors of DJ Times – have solicited their fans to vote for them, both online at www.americasbestdj.net, and at 40 official ABDJ events at nightclubs and festivals nationwide. By the time the polls closed on August 16, over 35,000 had voted.
Lawrence is a DJ and producer specializing in progressive trance music, who has played for crowds of over 100,000 at festivals worldwide. His dedicated fans voted him into fourth place in U.K. magazine “DJ’s” 2006 Top 100 international poll; and he was named Best DJ at the Dancestar US Awards, and Best American DJ at the International Dance Music Awards in 2005.
DJ Qbert (Richard Quitevis) is a multiple Disco Mix Club World (DMC) world champion and a member of the DJ Hall of Fame. DJ Skribble (Scott Ialacci) is best known for his MTV appearances on The Grind and Total Request Live, and has toured with rock guitarist Dave Navarro.

Grooverider released from prison after serving 10 months on his 4 year sentence for drug posession

Grooverider who co-presented a drum and bass show on BBC Radio 1
was released last week from his 4 year sentance.
We originally reported the arrest back in February.
Radio 1 DJ Grooverider has been released from prison in Dubai after serving 10 months for possessing drugs.
The DJ, whose real name is Raymond Bingham, was in the middle of a four-year sentence.
But he has been let out early after being pardoned by the Dubai Royal Family. He has flown back to the UK to spend time with family and friends.
Grooverider was originally arrested on November 23, 2007 after being caught with 2.16 grams of cannabis at the airport.
At the time Bingham said the drugs were in the pocket of a pair of trousers and he had forgotten about them. He was handed a four year sentence in February.
"I must have forgotten the spliff. It was a small amount. Back home I would not even get prosecuted." said Grooverider. Were glad to have you back buddy.

Something's stirring — a seismic rumble beginning to spread across the globe. A buzz spreading outwards like wildfire, igniting the online world, internet chatrooms, MySpace and beyond. Emails will soon be awash with speculation — who'll be crowned the No.1 DJ in our Top 100 DJs Poll 2008? It's time to open the floodgates…
From 1st August votes will start flooding in for the Top 100 DJs Poll 2008 — the world's best guide to the hottest DJs on the face of the planet, as voted for by YOU.
Controversial, influential and downright definitive, every year it causes celebration, ructions, disagreements and debate. Who's voting for whom? Why did you vote for him? Who's going to do well this time out? Who's your new favourite DJ? Who's rocked your socks off in the past 12 months?
The most influential poll in dance music is this year powered by Trackitdown.net — which means a free download for everyone who votes! By offering each voter a free track to download from their catalogue of 350,000 titles from over 10,000 labels, Trackitdown.net will demonstrate how easy it is to find your favourite electronic music legally.
The Top 100 DJs Poll is a 100% public vote, so if your fave selector's gonna have a chance of scooping the top prize, you've gotta help him win it. You can only vote once — for your Top 5 DJs — so make it count!
Since its inception in the early 1990s, the Top 100 DJs poll has gone from strength to strength. Initially dominated by Brits, it's grown into a genuine worldwide snapshot of the most popular DJs on the planet. It's become a career-defining moment for many DJs to be included in the poll, signalling to the world that they've made it.
Last year, voting increased from 217,000 to 345,000 votes, with the third largest voting contingent coming from nascent clubbing destination China, after the US and the UK, with Germany and Russia close behind. And we had a brand new ruler, too, in the form of adventurous trancer Armin van Buuren, who clinched the coveted No.1 position.
Being voted No.1 was a dream that came true," said Armin. "If so many people in the world take the time to go online and vote for you it's a great honour".
"Some people say the poll is like comparing apples to oranges, but the dance scene as a whole benefits from it. People talk about the poll and it raises discussion about music, music styles and clubs, which is very healthy for our scene.
There was also a large musical shift last year, notably in the dominance of techno, which crept up to become one of the biggest styles represented behind trance. And it was a good year too for house heads, with some relative newcomers performing particularly well. Fedde Le Grand was the Highest New Entry, right in at No.22 with a bullet. How will the poll shape up this year? YOU decide by heading over to djmag.com to vote NOW!
Voting opens 1st August and closes 24th September. Head over to djmag.com and make your vote count.
Last years top 10 included, at #1 spot Armin Van Buuren follwed by Tiesto, John Digweed, Paul Van Dyk, Sasha, Above & Beyond, Carl Cox, Ferry Corsten, Infected Mushroom, and David Guetta rounding out the Top 10. For the full 2007 DJ Mag Top 100 check it. |
