Armin van Buuren has been named as the world’s number one DJ in the annual DJ Mag Top 100 awards.
The list, which was officially unveiled at Ministry of Sound in London, threw up little surprises in terms of personnel with the usual suspects of Tiësto and Paul van Dyk taking the second and third spots respectively.
As you can see from the list below (after the jump), the charts are loaded with trance, with the top 10 in featuring Tiesto, Paul Van Dky, Above & Beyond, Ferry Corsten, and Markus Schulz.
Electro house also made a good account of itself with David Guetta, Deadmau5 and Axwell among the highest placed artists.
More than likely you will find at least a few of your favorites on the list.
Although heavily criticised for being little more than a popularity contest, the chart in some ways, could be viewed as accurate as it represents the number of people who would have gone to see the featured DJs over the course of the year.

Alternate Jurors Are Sworn In
A date for the opening statements in the murder retrial of famed music producer Phil Spector has been set for Wednesday October 29, now that a panel of six alternate jurors has been selected.
The final alternate sworn in today (October 27) was a woman who said her brother's suicide years ago wouldn't affect her decision-making in Spector's case, reports the Associated Press.
The six alternate jurors join a panel of 12 regular jurors, who were selected last week, as previously reported.
Spector -- the pioneer behind the 1960s Wall Of Sound technique -- is accused of murdering actress Lana Clarkson at his Los Angeles mansion on February 3, 2003.
After five months of heated testimony last year, the jury reached a 10-2 deadlock in favour of convicting Spector, which resulted in the judge declaring a mistrial.

Not A Chance?
Sources close to both members of the band and Coachella have denied that there has been any new move to reunite the group for next year's festival.
A British newspaper had claimed The Smiths were considering burying the hatchet for next year's event.
Meanwhile, the group's guitarist Johnny Marr's manager dismissed the story, telling our sister title Uncut that the Smiths reunion rumours were \"rubbish\".
Morrissey has previously claimed he was offered a near £40 million for just him and Smiths guitarist Marr to reunite for the Californian event in 2006.
A new double-CD compilation spanning the band's career, 'The Sound Of The Smiths', is released on November 10.

It's All Going Digital
Influential UK imprint Crosstown Rebels have announced plans for the launch of digital only label.
CDR (Crosstown Rebels Digital) has been hatched as a platform for new versions of previously released Crosstown Rebels material along with “experiments in sound and introductions to new artists and collaborators”.
Crosstown Rebels has established itself a commanding reputation over the last four years, particularly among the somewhat thin collection of UK-based house and techno labels.
Interestingly, the first release will be on a dubstep tip with a remix treatment of Jamie Jones’ ‘Panic’ from east London producer Bass Clef.
Jamie Jones ‘Panic (Bass Clef Remixes)’ will be released exclusively through Beatport on 24th November 2008.

Moving Past Oblivion With Bells
Karl Hyde and Rick Smith will continue to take a page from Pearl Jam's book next month and will record their shows at Brixton Academy and offer them up for release shortly afterwards.
While the grunge rockers famously made every performance from their 2003 tour available to fans, the Underworld boys have only been doing it for a short time. Those fans who made it out to dates on their Oblivion With Bells tour could relive the glory with select shows being made available via their website. It's a business move that makes a lot of sense in a world where bootlegs of live shows make their way into the digital world more often than not anyway.
If you want to catch the live experience, Kitsuné's autoKratz will be offering support each night, with Appleblim DJing on Friday and Rob Da Bank taking care of the decks on Saturday.
Fans who just can't wait can preorder the album, ensuring that they get an mp3 downlod of the show mere hours after the band leaves the stage, as well as a high quality WAV download on November 10th before the double CD ships.

Digital download store Beatport has decided to discontinue its affiliate program
In a message sent to labels and artists today, Beatport Management informed affiliates that the company had "made a business decision to shut down" the program, and asked that "all banners, buttons, text links, product images and store fronts" be taken down.
When reached for comment, Beatport's VP of Marketing Shawn Sabo confirmed the e-mail's contents, adding that "The affiliate program was not driving the relevant leads we had anticipated to [the site]. Moving into 2009, we have a plan to work with and support electronic music portals around the globe. We will be contacting these portals directly with Beatport's new offer."
Sabo also pointed out that the company's decision was to a lesser extent also driven by a desire to rid itself of associations with fraudulent mp3 blogs and forums that gave away releases for free, then drove traffic to Beatport from banners and text linking to the retailer.

The Mountains Are Calling, In Austria that is!
What started in December 1993 as a crazy weekend of snowboarding and some partying amongst a group of friends has evolved into one of the largest annual two-day events of its kind with over 70 DJs and live acts on offer.
Now celebrating its 15th year anniversary, this year's line-up reads like a who's who of major players in the current techno/minimal inner circle with Loco Dice and Radio Slave among the biggest names confirmed for the festival.
But this festival certainly isn't top heavy. Instead, we've got a slew of regular offenders, such as Âme, Guido Schneider, Daso, Martin Buttrich and Marco Carola ready to perform, as well as some relative newcomers to the game.
You can expect to hear some of the biggest tracks from the biggest DJs and producers, and some ensuing hilarity when inevitably a DJ or producer tries to get on the slopes after a long night behind the decks.

Serato and Ableton are happy to announce a partnership, which will pave the way for the future of Digital DJing.
With shared artist rosters from hip-hop (DJ Jazzy Jeff, DJ Nu-Mark, A-Trak) to electronica
(Paul Van Dyk, DJ Sasha), both Ableton Live and Serato Scratch Live are renowned as the premier
performance platforms in clubs around the globe.
While Serato’s Scratch Live excels in vinyl emulation, music library control and lightning quick hands-on
scratching, Ableton Live provides the tools for production, on-the-fly remixing and beat creation.
“Ableton and Serato take different approaches to modern musical performance,” says Ableton CEO
Gerhard Behles, “But both companies live by the philosophy that software should be straightforward,
easy to use, and most importantly, reliable and stable onstage and in the studio. Ableton has never had
an answer for the DJ who wants vinyl control, and rather than try to emulate what Serato do so well, we
simply make sure that our products work well together.”
Serato Audio Research CEO Steve West agrees. “After years of talking together, we’re thrilled to be
working with Ableton. It’s exciting to think about what we can offer to DJs and producers: the ability to
go beyond just spinning records and add a personal stamp to the music they play.”
Just where this Serato and Ableton collaboration will take us has yet to be seen but one thing is clear:
the worlds of DJing, remixing and production for artists worldwide have changes ahead.

Get Physical's star duo M.A.N.D.Y. will be making yet another trip through North America this month
The duo of Patrick Bodmer and Philipp Jung seemingly should have US citizenship by this point, considering the amount of time they've spent in the States in 2008. But while the duo will soon be making their third appearance in New York this year, that doesn't mean that fans are any less interested in seeing their electrifying DJ set. That Bodmer and Jung will also be hitting a number of other cities on this visit such as Denver (last night), Vancouver, Miami, Santo Domingo, San Francisco and Philadelphia as well is just icing on the cake.
