U2 Postpone Dublin Tower Plans Amidst Suffering Economy

Monday, 03 November 2008

U2 Tower PostponedDublin Ireland's first skyscraper is scrapped ..for now

Authorities in Dublin have announced the suspension of plans to build the first skyscraper in the Republic of Ireland, which was to house U2's new recording studio at the top.

The Dublin Docklands Development Authority said that Ireland's property slump and slide into recession have made it difficult to go ahead with the project at this time.

They added that they are still committed to building 'The U2 Tower', and hope to reopen negotiations with potential developers within the next 12 months, reports the Associated Press.

Work on the project was originally expected to begin this year with a projected completion date of 2011.

Deadmau5 Calls DJ's Fu*king C*nts

Monday, 03 November 2008

Deadmau5

Canadian producer Deadmau5 is building a reputation for rubbing people wrong way, and he’s done it again with his latest outburst.

Speaking with Ireland’s Daily Star ahead of shows he played there last month, Deadmau5 (aka Joel Zimmerman) took DJs to task. “They’re fucking cunts,” he ranted. “I don’t really see the technical merit in playing two songs at the same speed together.”

Deadmau5 is in the middle of a world tour to promote the release of his debut LP, Random Album Title, which sees him playing live shows with his famous Mau5head stage costume.

It’s both ironic and amusing that Deadmau5 holds such disdain for the very people who’ve made him a cult star in the dance scene, with DJs worldwide having voted him #1 in five categories at this year’s Beatport Music Awards. Just last week he was also ranked at #11 on the DJ Mag Top 100.

“[DJs are] my number one customer, right, so I’m not gonna go diss every fucking DJ,” he rationalised. “But to say you become this massive… performer by playing other people’s productions at the same speed as someone else’s productions and fading between the two of them, I don’t get it.”

Get Physical Music Celebrates 100

Saturday, 01 November 2008

Get Physical Music Celebrates 100Popular tech house label Get Physical Music will celebrate their 100th release in November.

The imprint is set to do it in style with a release that will pit some of their most famous artists against one another in what the label is calling "battle tracks." As a result, you'll get to hear M.A.N.D.Y. facing off against Booka Shade, resident English weirdoes Italoboyz vs resident French weirdoes Nôze and many more. As we know from Get Physical's fifth birthday compilation, this is one imprint that doesn't shy away from celebration—with good music attached—so expect some of these tracks to transcend the novelty "battle" tag and actually find their way into the boxes of top-flight DJs, including perhaps any of the three tracks that will be available as digital-only supplements to the vinyl release.

Tracklisting
A M.A.N.D.Y vs Booka Shade - Donut
B1 Italoboyz vs Nôze - Double Trouble
B2 Dakar vs Siopis - Dubai
C DJ T. vs Thomas Schumacher – May Contain Nuts
D1 LOPAZZ vs Heidi - Funkshovel
D2 Einzelkind vs Meat - Gin

Digital
Patrice Bäumel vs Caitlin Devlin – 7 days
Djuma Soundsystem vs Raz Ohara – Zillion Lights
Tiger Stripes vs Audiofly - Hundra

Get Physical will release GPM 100 on November 26, 2008.

Guns N' Roses Chinese Democracy Leaker Charge Downgraded?Chinese Democracy

FBI recommends misdemeanour charge for Kevin Cogill

The man accused of leaking several Guns N Roses tracks online has had his charges reduced, according to US reports.

Kevin Cogill, 27, is accused of violating federal copyright laws by uploading nine tracks from the veteran rockers' highly anticipated forthcoming album 'Chinese Democracy' on his website this summer.

Under the original charge, the leaker looked set to face five years in prison if convicted.

But the FBI investigation is now believed to have recommended downgrading the charge from a felony to a misdemeanour, reports Yahoo Music.

If that is the case Cogill is likely to face a maximum of one year in prison.

'Chinese Democracy' is due to be released on November 24.

Live Nation Concert Promoter Donates $50k To Save Gay Marriage

Saturday, 01 November 2008

Live Nation oposes prop 08

Live Nation opposes Prop 8 in California along with other Big Brands

Live Nation has donated $50,000 to oppose a proposed ban on gay marriage in California.

The major international concert promoter believes that Proposition 8, which will be voted on in the November 4 California election, takes away individual rights. The company has therefore contributed to the No On Prop. 8 campaign.

“Live Nation has always offered equal rights and benefits to our employees’ same-sex partners,” said Live Nation spokesman John Vlautin in a statement. “It is in this spirit that we have made the decision to donate $50,000 to the No on Prop. 8 campaign.”

Same sex marriage was legalised in the state this year, but Proposition 8 could see the new law overturned.

Apple also recently made major donations to the No On Prop. 8 campaign.

Phil Spector Trial Postponed Due To Injured Foot

Saturday, 01 November 2008

Phil Spector

The first day of testimony in Phil Spector's murder retrial has been postponed because one of the jurors is injured.

An alternate juror reportedly fell in the parking lot of the Los Angeles court and injured his foot.

Superior Court Judge Larry Fidler made the decision to postpone testimony until next week because he is hesitant to lose the juror, who expressed his desire to continue on the case after receiving medical treatment.

The trial is set to resume on Monday, reports the Associated Press.

Spector -- the pioneer behind the 1960s Wall Of Sound technique -- is accused of murdering actress Lana Clarkson at his Los Angeles mansion on February 3, 2003.

After five months of heated testimony last year, the jury reached a 10-2 deadlock in favour of convicting Spector, which resulted in the judge declaring a mistrial.

DJ Mag Top 100 Awards Names Armin Van Buuren #1

Saturday, 01 November 2008

Dj Mag Top 100 DJ's 2008Armin van Buuren has been named as the world’s number one DJ in the annual DJ Mag Top 100 awards.

The list, which was officially unveiled at Ministry of Sound in London, threw up little surprises in terms of personnel with the usual suspects of Tiësto and Paul van Dyk taking the second and third spots respectively.

As you can see from the list below (after the jump), the charts are loaded with trance, with the top 10 in featuring Tiesto, Paul Van Dky, Above & Beyond, Ferry Corsten, and Markus Schulz.

Electro house also made a good account of itself with David Guetta, Deadmau5 and Axwell among the highest placed artists.

More than likely you will find at least a few of your favorites on the list.

Although heavily criticised for being little more than a popularity contest, the chart in some ways, could be viewed as accurate as it represents the number of people who would have gone to see the featured DJs over the course of the year.

Tuesday, 28 October 2008

Phil Spector

Alternate Jurors Are Sworn In

A date for the opening statements in the murder retrial of famed music producer Phil Spector has been set for Wednesday October 29, now that a panel of six alternate jurors has been selected.

The final alternate sworn in today (October 27) was a woman who said her brother's suicide years ago wouldn't affect her decision-making in Spector's case, reports the Associated Press.

The six alternate jurors join a panel of 12 regular jurors, who were selected last week, as previously reported.
