Crosstown Rebels Launch Digital Label

Crosstown Rebels Launch Digital Label

It's All Going Digital

Influential UK imprint Crosstown Rebels have announced plans for the launch of digital only label.

CDR (Crosstown Rebels Digital) has been hatched as a platform for new versions of previously released Crosstown Rebels material along with “experiments in sound and introductions to new artists and collaborators”.

Crosstown Rebels has established itself a commanding reputation over the last four years, particularly among the somewhat thin collection of UK-based house and techno labels.

Interestingly, the first release will be on a dubstep tip with a remix treatment of Jamie Jones’ ‘Panic’ from east London producer Bass Clef.

Jamie Jones ‘Panic (Bass Clef Remixes)’ will be released exclusively through Beatport on 24th November 2008.

Underworld To Record More Live Albums

Friday, 24 October 2008

Moving Past Oblivion With Bells

Karl Hyde and Rick Smith will continue to take a page from Pearl Jam's book next month and will record their shows at Brixton Academy and offer them up for release shortly afterwards.

While the grunge rockers famously made every performance from their 2003 tour available to fans, the Underworld boys have only been doing it for a short time. Those fans who made it out to dates on their Oblivion With Bells tour could relive the glory with select shows being made available via their website. It's a business move that makes a lot of sense in a world where bootlegs of live shows make their way into the digital world more often than not anyway.

If you want to catch the live experience, Kitsuné's autoKratz will be offering support each night, with Appleblim DJing on Friday and Rob Da Bank taking care of the decks on Saturday.

Fans who just can't wait can preorder the album, ensuring that they get an mp3 downlod of the show mere hours after the band leaves the stage, as well as a high quality WAV download on November 10th before the double CD ships.

Beatport Ends Affiliate Program

Friday, 24 October 2008

Digital download store Beatport has decided to discontinue its affiliate program

In a message sent to labels and artists today, Beatport Management informed affiliates that the company had "made a business decision to shut down" the program, and asked that "all banners, buttons, text links, product images and store fronts" be taken down.

When reached for comment, Beatport's VP of Marketing Shawn Sabo confirmed the e-mail's contents, adding that "The affiliate program was not driving the relevant leads we had anticipated to [the site]. Moving into 2009, we have a plan to work with and support electronic music portals around the globe. We will be contacting these portals directly with Beatport's new offer."

Sabo also pointed out that the company's decision was to a lesser extent also driven by a desire to rid itself of associations with fraudulent mp3 blogs and forums that gave away releases for free, then drove traffic to Beatport from banners and text linking to the retailer.

RaveOnSnow Announced Dates & Lineup For Its 2008, 15 Year Anniversary

Monday, 20 October 2008

Rave On Snow 2008

The Mountains Are Calling, In Austria that is!

What started in December 1993 as a crazy weekend of snowboarding and some partying amongst a group of friends has evolved into one of the largest annual two-day events of its kind with over 70 DJs and live acts on offer.

Now celebrating its 15th year anniversary, this year's line-up reads like a who's who of major players in the current techno/minimal inner circle with Loco Dice and Radio Slave among the biggest names confirmed for the festival.

But this festival certainly isn't top heavy. Instead, we've got a slew of regular offenders, such as Âme, Guido Schneider, Daso, Martin Buttrich and Marco Carola ready to perform, as well as some relative newcomers to the game.

You can expect to hear some of the biggest tracks from the biggest DJs and producers, and some ensuing hilarity when inevitably a DJ or producer tries to get on the slopes after a long night behind the decks.

Serato And Ableton Announce A Creative Partnership

Friday, 17 October 2008

Serato and Ableton are happy to announce a partnership, which will pave the way for the future of Digital DJing.

With shared artist rosters from hip-hop (DJ Jazzy Jeff, DJ Nu-Mark, A-Trak) to electronica
(Paul Van Dyk, DJ Sasha), both Ableton Live and Serato Scratch Live are renowned as the premier
performance platforms in clubs around the globe.

While Serato’s Scratch Live excels in vinyl emulation, music library control and lightning quick hands-on
scratching, Ableton Live provides the tools for production, on-the-fly remixing and beat creation.

“Ableton and Serato take different approaches to modern musical performance,” says Ableton CEO
Gerhard Behles, “But both companies live by the philosophy that software should be straightforward,
easy to use, and most importantly, reliable and stable onstage and in the studio. Ableton has never had
an answer for the DJ who wants vinyl control, and rather than try to emulate what Serato do so well, we
simply make sure that our products work well together.”

Serato Audio Research CEO Steve West agrees. “After years of talking together, we’re thrilled to be
working with Ableton. It’s exciting to think about what we can offer to DJs and producers: the ability to
go beyond just spinning records and add a personal stamp to the music they play.”

Just where this Serato and Ableton collaboration will take us has yet to be seen but one thing is clear:
the worlds of DJing, remixing and production for artists worldwide have changes ahead.

M.A.N.D.Y On Tour

Get Physical's star duo M.A.N.D.Y. will be making yet another trip through North America this month

The duo of Patrick Bodmer and Philipp Jung seemingly should have US citizenship by this point, considering the amount of time they've spent in the States in 2008. But while the duo will soon be making their third appearance in New York this year, that doesn't mean that fans are any less interested in seeing their electrifying DJ set. That Bodmer and Jung will also be hitting a number of other cities on this visit such as Denver (last night), Vancouver, Miami, Santo Domingo, San Francisco and Philadelphia as well is just icing on the cake.

Oct 16 M.A.N.D.Y., Beta Nightclub, Colorado

Pet Shop Boys Release Single On Kompakt

Friday, 17 October 2008

Synth pop legends Pet Shop Boys will release a new single later this month on Kompakt Pop

The track, called "I'm in Love with a German Film Star," isn't actually by the duo. Instead, it's produced by them with the artist and filmmaker Sam Taylor-Wood taking top billing. Taylor-Wood, who has worked with the PSB's before on covers of Serge Gainsbourg and Donna Summer, has chosen an early '80s post-punk song by The Passions this time around.

We haven't heard the track quite yet, but we've been naturally assured that the original and symphonic versions that Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe have undertaken are grand, with remixes by Gui Boratto, Jürgen Paape and Mark Reeder not being that shabby either.

Curious about how this unique collaboration came to be, RA asked Tennant how the PSB came to release on Cologne's finest:

I became aware of Kompakt at the beginning of this decade and began collecting the Pop Ambient series. I really like good electronic music and Kompakt has an inspiring commitment to it with so many great artists like Markus Guentner, Dettinger, Michael Mayer, Superpitcher, Gui Boratto and many more. The label also has a very strong visual identity which I admire. It's very exciting for us to bring a track to Kompakt and have them commission remixes of it and release it.

Kompakt will release Sam Taylor-Wood's Pet Shop Boys-produced single I'm in Love with a German Film Star on October 27th on 12-inch, CD and on 7-inch. (The latter format will be available in a limited edition of 500.)

DJ AM Back On The Scene In LA

DJ AM gave his first performance in Los Angeles on October 15 since surviving the deadly plane crash that took the lives of four people last month.

DJ AM, threw it down for the crowd at the grand re-opening of the Hollywood Palladium with headliner Jay-Z.

AM, who had visible scars from the crash, kept his energy high, cheering and waving his hands in the air during the rap star's set.

"I'd like to give a special shout out for DJ AM," Jay-Z said. He also paid tribute to Blink 182's Travis Barker, who survived the crash, adding, "RIP for the people who lost their lives. We'll party hard for them."

The two-person plane crew - pilot Sarah Lemmon and co-pilot James Bland - died within minutes of the crash from smoke inhalation and burns, while Chris Baker and Charles Still died from the impact of the September 19 crash in South Carolina.

Travis Barker Ready To Leave Hospital

Friday, 17 October 2008

Travis Barker Gives Hospital The Finger.

Blink 182's Travis Barker said today that he expects to soon leave the Los Angeles hospital where he's being treated for burns following last month's deadly plane crash

Writing today (October 17) on his MySpace blog, the drummer said he's looking forward to getting back home to his kids, and posted pictures of his hospital visitors.

"Just another quick one to let everyone know that I think I'm getting out of the hospital soon :) I can't wait to get out of here and be home with the babes. The doctors say I'm healing up quickly and I'm gonna be out of here b4 you know it," he said.

"The staff here is THE BEST, but this is what I have to say to hospital life," he wrote above a photo of his middle finger.

He also thanked the people who came to visit him in his hospital bed, including Game, Sticks, his father, and "Yoko from Matsuhisa (MY FAVORITE RESTAURANT!) brought some food in for us. She is such a sweetheart and so nice to take the time to bring me some rad food."

Barker was one of two survivors of the September 19 South Carolina plane crash, along with DJ AM, as previously reported.

Tuesday, 07 October 2008

Tour bus found in Los Angeles parking lot.

The Kills missing tour bus has been found, but details are yet to emerge about what exactly happened.

A spokesperson for the band tells nme.com that the bus was found today (October 6), abandoned in a Los Angeles parking lot. All the band's gear and belongings were still on board.

The bus and driver mysteriously disappeared last week after the driver took the vehicle to get new tyres fitted, and failed to meet up with the band in Austin, TX on their tour opening for The Raconteurs.

DC-10 Closed Once Again. This Time Forever?

Tuesday, 07 October 2008

DC-10 closed forever?

Ibizavoice.com is reporting that authorities closed DC-10 this morning mere minutes before Circoloco was set to begin with its penultimate 2008 edition.

The embattled venue was closed earlier this summer, forced by authorities to serve out the remainder of the 60 day ban that had been handed down in 2007. After opening again in mid-August for business, however, last week the Sant Josep Council made the decision to inform the club of yet another sanction: a €300,000 fine and closure for 1 year.

Once again, it seems as if the legal issue is the capacity of the club, which is only officially allowed to have 65 people on the premises at any one time. Ibizavoice reports that DC10 appealed the decision, but that "the Judge refused to retract after balancing the financial interests of DC10 with the obvious discrepancy in the number of people allowed in, and actually attending, the club."

As it stands now, the next time it will be possible for the club to open will be in 2010, but considering how arduous the legal process has been thus far, we'd advise clubbers not to hold their breath. The Ibiza hotspot may finally have seen its 'final' party.

DC-10, located in an former airport hangar just a stone’s throw from the runway of Ibiza Airport is a covered terrace with a sideroom that squeezes in 1500 clubbers, but you don't come for the decor - the club has been most famous for its wild all-day Monday Circoloco parties. With world class headliners, underground techno and the wildest atmosphere on the island.
