KCRW appoints Jason Bentley as Music Director and host of Morning Becomes Eclectic. Bentley will leave his current evening time slot to take over from 9am to noon PST, Monday through Friday.
“I’m immensely grateful for the opportunity and humbled by the task, which is to open a new chapter for the station. It’s no longer the hypnotic pulse of the city at night – it’s the ever-evolving optimism of weekday mornings. My show has always reflected the continual evolution of music and emerging artists. And while I built my foundation as a champion of dance and electronic music, this is a great opportunity for me to grow, a challenge I will take very seriously.“ – Jason Bentley
Jason Bentley is known not just as a KCRW DJ but as a Music Supervisor for film “The Matrix,” soundtracks, a music executive (co-founder of the Quango Music Group), an A&R executive at Madonna’s Maverick imprint, and as a music producer/remixer...
House music maestro Danny Howells was recently in Australia for the first time in over two years, sweeping across the country for a series of intimate club shows to promote of his new mix out on Renaissance. But, before making it even halfway through the tour, Howells ignited a roaring debate on ‘warmup ethics’ – what exactly is appropriate conduct on the part of a warmup DJ who’s been charged with heating up the dancefloor for an international guest? It all went down at his first gig in Perth.
DJ/producer John Tejada will mix the next entry into Fabric's celebrated compilation series.
Fabric 44 will be a heavily edited mix from Tejada, who is renowned for his studio prowess. Says the DJ, "I did edit the tracks quite a bit…to take it one step above of what you might hear when a DJ plays out. I wanted the whole track selection to turn into one piece of music: a techno-classical piece that has movements and moods from start to finish, similar to a conductor with a classical piece of music." The symphony will contain a host of tunes from Tejada's own Palette label, as well as two tunes from Hardwax in and among the rest.
Pilot warns officials they'd run out of runway just before the crash.
The cockpit recording from the September aircrash involving Blink 182 drummer Travis Barker and DJ AM has been released.
In the recording, the plane's pilot can be heard warning air traffic controllers that his plane was "going off the end of the runway" just before the plane crashed, killing four of the six people on board.
Co-pilot James Bland was also heard asking for emergency vehicles to be summoned, reports the Associated Press. "Roll the equipment, we're going off the end," he said.
Controllers responded by directing other airplanes to steer clear of the site. "We've had an emergency, just fly straight ahead," a controller told another pilot, who responded, "We see it down there. It doesn't look good."
The crash occurred at the airport in Columbia, South Carolina on September 19 and killed both pilots and two close friends of the musicians when the plane crashed into a fence and burst into flames. Travis Barker and DJ AM, whose real name is Adam Goldstein, suffered severe burns but are expected to recover fully and have already been preforming.
This Friday, November 21st, Traffic Events celebrates its 7 year anniversary at Cinespace in Hollywood, CA. Along with the sleek layout and character of the unique space, the event will be further accented by a custom Turbo Sound rig courtesy of WHUMP, and visual stimuli by MC THIS.
At the helm of this voyage is London-based DJ collective SOS (or SexOnSubstance), featuring Demi, Desyn Masiello and Omid 16B. As friends, producers, DJs, label owners – and model clubland citizens – Demi, Desyn and Omid are three of the most passionate talents working in electronic music today. Taking inspiration from their SexOnWax and Deeper Substance imprints to form SOS in 2004, they've built a first-rate reputation for quality music, inventive mixing and an infectious party spirit, whether it's on a boat along the Thames, deep inside Bedrock or Ministry of Sound, or glowing in the sun in Ibiza or Miami. Like Danny Krivit, François K and Joe Claussell's legendary Body & Soul connection before them, the chemistry between the members of SOS makes for a proper three-headed DJ monster.

Liam Howlett, Keith Flint and Maxim all feature on the album, which is the first time since the release of Fat Of The Land in 1997. Kevin Cogill changes his plea to strike a deal with the feds.
The man accused of leaking several Guns N Roses tracks online from their new album 'Chinese Democracy' has agreed to plead guilty, a federal prosecutor announced.
Kevin Cogill, 27, will enter his guilty plea to one federal count of copyright infringement at a hearing on December 8, Craig Missakian, assistant US attorney, told the Associated Press.
Cogill is accused of violating federal copyright laws by uploading nine of the albums tracks on his website this summer. He was arrested at his home in Los Angeles in August, and was released on bail.
He originally entered a not-guilty plea in Los Angeles Federal Court last month, but has reportedly agreed to change his plea to guilty.
Details of the plea deal that Cogill reached with federal prosecutors have not been revealed and it'still unclear how he obtained the copies of the Guns N Roses tracks. The album, if you've yet to hear it will be released in 4 days on Saturday November 24.

Michael Jackson has handed over the deeds to his Neverland ranch to a company that he owns a partial stake in.
The singer filed a grand deed on Monday (November 10), making the Sycamore Valley Ranch Co, which he is said to own a stake of, the new ranch owner, reports Yahoo news.
Colony Capital LLC bought Jackson's $24.5 million loan on the property in May, but now the singer is reportedly relinquished control of the property he bought in 1988.
Neverland was due to be auctioned off until the loan was bought.
In the early 80s, Carlos Sosa AKA DJ Sneak relocated from the island of Puerto Rico to the underground hub that is Chicago. He brought with him a strong Latin influence that he’d quickly fuse with what was already going on in the ‘windy city’, an approach that eventually placed DJ Sneak alongside luminaries like Derrick Carter and Mark Farina as one of the leading pioneers of the Chicago house sound. Imagine the fuss then, when news trickled back that Sneak had gone back-to-back behind the decks with minimal techno powerhouse Ricardo Villalobos at the Sunwaves Festival in Romania earlier this year. It was a ‘meeting of the minds’ from leaders of two completely different scenes, and it cause quite a stir.
In the end the pair played for over three hours together, with Sneak continuing on for another hour to wrap up the party. “It was definitely an amazing thing to see, because of the respect level we have for each other,” Sneak told ITM. “We combined our music together, and I wasn’t playing my usual deep house stuff, I was playing more tribally and energetic. And on the same note Ricardo was still playing his minimal stuff, but he was also playing a lot more Latin – and the combination was unreal.”
Since that infamous gig earlier this year the Chicago/Berlin crossover movement has been picking up some serious steam, and Sneak is happy to help bring the German sound back home to its roots in the US. “I’m looking forward to doing more shows together, but more so I feel like I’m bringing the interest back to Chicago house,” Sneak told ITM. “I’ve been hooking up with different people recently, the Berlin guys who do minimal, but really… They’re doing house without the funk. When they come to me put the funk in it, and it becomes Chicago house,” he laughs.
Steve Bug's Poker Flat label will reach their milestone 100th release later this month with a remix package of DHS's 1990 classic "House Of God."
Almost 20 years on from the original release of D.H.S.‘s classic, ‚The House of God‘, D.H.S. is back to guide and persuade us once again!
DHS (or Dimensional Holofonic Sound, to give its full title) is the techno alias of San Francisco-based Ben Stokes. He created the track in 1989 after being inspired by the acid house that was being made around him. At the time of release, it was championed by DJs such as Sven Väth, but also became a big hit on the UK rave scene.
