Music production gear Native Instrument have announced the release of their very own integral production tool titled Maschine. The software is said include a number of features that make beat creation and arrangement 'more immediate and tactile than ever before'.
The system incorporates a sampler and an advanced software sequencer with an integrated performance controller and is to be used in computer-based studio setups. The controller has been designed to make it feel like a real-life instrument, incorporating 16 illuminating pressure-sensitive drum pads, eight rotary encoders and a very user-friendly interface that lets you access the many functions without going through endless sub menus. Next to that, the hardware is compatible with any other MIDI-based instrument thanks to an included MIDI mapping application and support of the MCU protocol for sophisticated DAW control... |

The Party Continues.. Online.
Farewell To Indie 103.1, They're calling it quits, on the radio. Indie 103.1 has been one of our favorite stations and we are very sad to see them go. Quality music. Quality programming. And quality people. Luckily, we can continue to listen online at indie1031.com but we already miss it on our dial.
Indie Official Remarks:
This is an important message for the Indie 103.1 Radio Audience -
Indie 103.1 will cease broadcasting over this frequency effective immediately. Because of changes in the radio industry and the way radio audiences are measured, stations in this market are being forced to play too much Britney, Puffy and alternative music that is neither new nor cutting edge. Due to these challenges, Indie 103.1 was recently faced with only one option --- to play the corporate radio game.
We have decided not to play that game any longer. Rather than changing the sound, spirit, and soul of what has made Indie 103.1 great Indie 103.1 will bid farewell to the terrestrial airwaves and take an alternative course... |

Allen & Heath has revealed ahead of NAMM 2009 that it plans to unveil two new products at the technology trade show this Friday.
One will excite DJs, the other probably won’t.
For jocks on a budget, the Xone:22 looks like it could be a great starting product for a DJ set up.
With two channels, Allen & Heath’s unparalleled low-pass and high-pass Voltage Control Filters (VCF), 3-band total kill EQ, and solid faders, the Xone:22 looks like it could be one of the best entry-level analogue DJ mixers on the market.
“We’ve raised the bar on entry level mixer design with the Xone:22,” said Xone’s head designer Andy Rigby-Jone. “It’s the first mixer at this price point to have a full cut isolator/EQ, accurate metering, quality faders and pro standard audio headroom.
“We want to offer the bedroom DJ a quality performance tool and a taste of the professional club experience.” |

The city of Los Angeles has agreed to waive more than $100,000 in fees associated with the Grammy Awards, despite severe city budget shortfalls in recent months.
The LA City Council voted yesterday (January 12) to approve the measure waiving $124,163 in city fees for the massive event, which is set to be held February 8 at the Staples Center in downtown Los Angeles.
Many people oppose this measure, saying waivers should not be granted to private entities, especially in light of the city's ailing economy, reports the Los Angeles Times.
"I wonder if the city of Los Angeles constituents, the voters, know that you're giving $100,000 or whatever it is, to the Grammy Awards," said mayoral candidate David Saltsburg. "This special-event fee money is to provide benefit to the community -- open to the public -- not to be used for commercial private entities."... |

Hell on fire in March.
International Deejay Gigolo Records are set to release the eleventh in their series of unmixed compilations later this year.
The label will turn thirteen later this year and has had almost 250 releases since its inception, including tracks from Tiga, Jeff Mills, Dopplereffekt and Dave Clarke. None of them are to be seen on this selection, however, which focuses on new Gigolo blood with a few surprise twists along the way.
The first is Herman Schwartz's instrumental version of Amy Winehouse's "Back to Black," which replaces the vocals with a slow synth line. Ectomorph also contributes an edit of a Jamal Moss track, and Peter Kruder (of Voom:Voom and Kruder & Dorfmeister fame) sees the first vinyl release under his own name in over eight years. "Visions Ltd" will touch down on wax close to the release date of the compilation, which also features cuts from Lopazz, DJ Pierre, Motor and Abe Duque.
As you'd expect, the tracks are all personally selected by label boss DJ Hell, who took over a year to select the tracks that would make up Eleven. He's also set to follow up 2003's NY Muscle album later this year—proof that the 46 year old hasn't lost his passion for the club scene just yet.

Native drops it at NAMM.
The annual Winter NAMM Show begins this thursday in Anaheim and Native Instruments has revealed that it will be dropping three new products at the NAMM 2009 music tech trade show next week.
The company said in a statement to the media that there will be one product each for DJs, producers and guitarists, and that the new releases represent “the biggest new product innovation in years!”.
..But don't plan on attending the show. It's super tough to get in and only open to those who manufacture, distribute and/or retail musical instruments/products. We're lucky enough to always have a few passes and the show is always full to the brim with the top musicians and producers from around the globe.

Florian Schneider leaves after 40 years.
Kraftwerk co-founder Florian Schneider has announced that he has quit the band.
Schneider, one of just two remaining original members, has announced the end of his 40-year partnership with co-founder Ralf Hütter. The pioneering German electronic band revealed the news on their website today (January 5).
No reason for the departure was given, but it is likely that Schneider will now focus on solo projects.
The band originally started off as a two-piece in the early '70s, but expanded to four members over the years. They have been actively touring in recent years, playing major festivals such as California's Coachella event in 2008.

Grateful Dead members confirm 2009 US tour.
The surviving members of The Grateful Dead have announced that they will embark on their first tour in nearly five years this spring.
The quartet, which now calls itself simply The Dead, plans to hit the road beginning in mid-April and play approximately 20 shows across the US through mid-May.
The band reformed last October for a Barack Obama benefit concert in Pennsylvania, fuelling rumours that they would get together for a proper tour.
The band, which now consists of original members Phil Lesh, Bob Weir, Mickey Hart and Bill Kreutzmann, will be joined by their 2004 tourmates Warren Haynes on guitar (replacing late guitarist Jerry Garcia) and Jeff Chimenti on keyboards.
The exact tour dates are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.

The S-Man Is Back.
Whether it’s hosting and playing legendary 7/8 hour sets at his ‘Release Yourself’ parties around the world; compiling and mixing an annual compilation of the same name, or producing as himself or the S-Man, Roger Sanchez is one of house music’s most revered ambassadors.
Aside from running his own label Stealth Records, Roger has also found time to remix some of the world’s best artists such as Madonna, Michael Jackson, Jamiroquai, Alicia Keys, Daft Punk and many more.
“This is the first compilation outside of my own Release Yourself series I’ve done in a long time, and I was excited by the opportunity to do something different, as presented by the Renaissance 3D mix. I feel this captures the essence of the many different vibes I have, be it on the dancefloor, in the studio or at home.” – Roger Sanchez.
