NAMM 2009

Native drops it at NAMM.

The annual Winter NAMM Show begins this thursday in Anaheim and Native Instruments has revealed that it will be dropping three new products at the NAMM 2009 music tech trade show next week.

The company said in a statement to the media that there will be one product each for DJs, producers and guitarists, and that the new releases represent “the biggest new product innovation in years!”.

..But don't plan on attending the show. It's super tough to get in and only open to those who manufacture, distribute and/or retail musical instruments/products. We're lucky enough to always have a few passes and the show is always full to the brim with the top musicians and producers from around the globe.

Kraftwerk co-founder quits band

Florian Schneider leaves after 40 years.

Kraftwerk co-founder Florian Schneider has announced that he has quit the band.

Schneider, one of just two remaining original members, has announced the end of his 40-year partnership with co-founder Ralf Hütter. The pioneering German electronic band revealed the news on their website today (January 5).

No reason for the departure was given, but it is likely that Schneider will now focus on solo projects.

The band originally started off as a two-piece in the early '70s, but expanded to four members over the years. They have been actively touring in recent years, playing major festivals such as California's Coachella event in 2008.

The Grateful Dead 2009 Tour

Grateful Dead members confirm 2009 US tour.

The surviving members of The Grateful Dead have announced that they will embark on their first tour in nearly five years this spring.

The quartet, which now calls itself simply The Dead, plans to hit the road beginning in mid-April and play approximately 20 shows across the US through mid-May.

The band reformed last October for a Barack Obama benefit concert in Pennsylvania, fuelling rumours that they would get together for a proper tour.

The band, which now consists of original members Phil Lesh, Bob Weir, Mickey Hart and Bill Kreutzmann, will be joined by their 2004 tourmates Warren Haynes on guitar (replacing late guitarist Jerry Garcia) and Jeff Chimenti on keyboards.

The exact tour dates are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.

Scion House Party Tonight Featuring Fake Blood & Tommie Sunshine

Wednesday, 17 December 2008

Scio House Party - Fake Blood, Tommie Sunshine

Fake Blood & Tommie Sunshine shining through the rain in LA.

Its been a pretty epic year for the SCION House Parties. We've had Justice, Chromeo, Sebastian, Kavinsky, Busy P, DJ Mehdi, Mr. Oizo, Hot Chip, 2ManyDJs, Alan Braxe, and DJ Falcon grace us with their presence, just to name a few. And they're closing the year out with a guy who's produced some pretty stellar records over the past 12 months: Fake Blood. Shrouded in secrecy until now, he has steadily been making all the right rounds, remixing everyone from Lil Boots, Hot Chip, Count and Sinden, and more. Backing him up on the wheels of steel are Tommie Sunshine, Scottie B, and Royal Rumble.

The best thing about all of this? It's a free party. All you have to do is RSVP, round up a posse of non-sucky friends, and dance until your shoes fall apart. See you there.

Booka Shade's 'Cinematic Shades' Available Now

Tuesday, 16 December 2008

Booka Shade Cinematic Shades

Warming up to Booka Shade.

Booka Shade 'Cinematic Shades' (The Slow Songs) is out now for digital download and it's heating things up! The Album featuring more chilling grooves seems like an instrumental on the flip as opossed to what we normally hear from the duo. Iv'e found myself vibing to the tracks and would definately recommend adding it to your collection.

While German duo Booka Shade is known for its danceable tech-house, this holiday season finds cohorts Arno Kammermeier and Walter Merziger laying low to a mellower kind of groove.

Booka Shade’s own redefinition of dance music expressed on their last 3 albums, Memento, Movements and The Sun & The Neon Light, shows their ability to sculpt nocturnal yet melancholic music for the dance floor and beyond. Cinematic Shades is the perfect soundtrack to chill out and recover from all your NYE debauchery.

Booka's Digital Album 'Cinematic Shades' only and exclusively via iTunes!
