The Orb "Bagdad Batteries".
The Orb will be releasing their 17th complete album “Baghdad Batteries” this September. The album will be the third in the “Orbsessions” series for the UK imprint Malicious Damage.
The Orb’s last two LPs in the series were made up of old tracks and undiscovered gems, yet “Baghdad Batteries” is made up of all new material.
The album was recorded at the Berlin studio of electronic producer and long time contributor Thomas Fehlman, with the title inspired by the archaeological find of the world’s first primitive battery, thought to be over 2,000 years old.
2009 has been a tough year for The Orb, after long time member Andy Hughes passed away at the age of 43.
Baghdad Batteries will be released on September 7th through Malicious Damage.

No More Pacha NYC?
(New York City, USA) - *UPDATE* Pacha NYC is back open with Jonathan Peters Saturday July 25, Todd Terry, Friday, July 24 and Danny Tenaglia's Michael Jackson tribute is back on Saturday August 1st.
Just prior to Pacha New York's huge July 4th weekend events including performances by Erick Morillo on Friday, and Chus & Ceballos on Saturday the club was closed down. There has been no official comment by the representatives at Pacha, which is leaving much of the New York and Tri-State area clubbers speculating.
Danny Tenaglia was also scheduled to perform a Michael Jackson tribute and was informed that it was cancelled. He posted the following comment: "SORRY TO ANNOUNCE THAT: PACHA WILL NOT BE OPEN THIS ENTIRE WEEKEND FOR LEGAL REASONS! This is terrible news for us all. I think you all know that every once in a while this happens to various NYC venues & we're sure they will BE opened by next weekend. In the meantime, this is my Flier/MJ Tribute for my next date on Aug 1st." |

Beck's in the mix.
Artists such as Pharaoh Saunders, Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark, Michael Jackson, The Pink Mountaintops, Lee Scratch Perry and MC Paul Barman, are just some of the artists appearing on the inaugural DJ series “Planned Obsolescence”, recently started by psychedelic pop freak Beck.
His first mix "Autobahn Hologram" manages to move from obscure pop via Michael Jackson’s lo-fi demo "Workin' Day and Night” to Pharaoh Saunders avant-garde "Red, Black & Green". Mixes from other guest DJs will follow in the near future.
Beck has been very busy lately, announcing his involvement with the Record Club, a project between musical friends like MGMT, Flaming Lips and himself, as well as a full-length cassette-only cover of Sonic Youth's 1986 album “EVOL” and a collaborative album with French singer and actress Charlotte Gainsbourg. |

DJ Hell Underwear line.
DJ Hell is set to launch his own underwear line later this year.
Hell has always embraced the outlandish nature of the fashion industry throughout his career, marketing himself as a self-confessed "playboy," and working closely with brands like Chanel, whom he produced a mix CD for.
Apparently the collaboration came about because Wendy & Jim featured Hell’s music for one of their catwalk shows, and since then they've been talking about doing their own project together. Hell's underwear line apparently comes in three different styles and fabric options: pure organic cotton, lightweight mesh and lace.
Bruno, eat your heart out. |

Playhouse Hollywood.
A new adventure in clubland opens it's doors in Hollywood. Playhouse, the newly renovated Fox theater on Hollywood Blvd, with it's $6 million dollar makeover is open for business. The envisioned "Vegas-in-Hollywood" style club features Cirque style servers, Funktion One Sound System, high ceilings, 4 bars including a massive circular bar and 13,000-square feet of debauchery. The venues soft opening July 2nd drew a crowd so large LAPD had to clear the boulevard.
The Muse Lifestyle Group headed by Elie Samaha (Roxbury, White Lotus) and Rob Viokur (Crobar, Tantra) fame tell the LA Times,
"We haven't even shown what we really have up our sleeve," says Vinokur. He continues, "Our bartenders are Cirque acrobats, and the waitresses have special choreographed shows during the night. ..It's not just about a DJ but a complete show. We're bringing Vegas to L.A."
The Playhouse will keep it's doors open til 4am and will also feature a late night diner, "Sweet Love Hangover" that will cater to club goers after a long night of partying until 9am.
What's next for the Muse Group you ask? Turning clubs Nacional and Holly's into a new lounge called 77. Why 77? After the year 1977 of course. Taking it back to the days of Studio 54, CGBG's, Saturday Night Fever and the year I was born.
